The network of Honorable Consulates has been created shortly after Turkey has received independence. Except for granting the help in commercial activity, a major factor for expansion of a network in the certain countries, in particular, was need{requirement} to support contacts to citizens of Turkey in these countries. With constant increase of trade, tourism and the international contacts as a whole, additional forms of representation and the help have been added to duties of Honorable Consuls. As a whole, Honorable Consuls should represent Turkey in the consular district and care of interests as the countries, and its{her} citizens, operating in borders of sphere of the competence.

The duty of the Consul is granting the help and advice{councils} to citizens of Turkey whom appeared in heavy position. It can be loss by the tourist of money and passports, unexpected illness, or arrest, and also any accidents which have happened to citizens of Turkey . The basic kinds of activity of the Consul in economic and commercial spheres is:

• The notification of the information on economy and trade of Turkey and preparation of answers to any inquiries concerning trade

Successful performance of the mentioned above functions demands from the Consul of tracking of economic and trading events in Turkey, an establishment of communications{connections} between Turkish and local businessmen, chambers of commerce in District. And also maintenance of regular contacts to Mission of a highest level.

The consul should provide regular granting of the published information materials about Turkey to authorities, a news media in District and other important addressees.

The major functions on questions of spread of knowledge concerning Turkish culture is:

• Granting of the help by the Turkish scientist, to artists, journalists, teachers and grant-aided students in the District
• Granting of support and tracking of Turkish cultural actions, in particular what are organized by Turkey

On questions of tourism the Consul can:

• To organize press conferences and different actions in cooperation with Mission of a highest level.
• To distribute tourist booklets and publications in the local tourist industry, including travel companies and the other tourist organizations.
• To come into contact between representatives of tourist business of Turkey who visit{attend} District, both to local authorities and travel agencies.
